Maths with Ms Komor

Maths with Ms Komor
IALT: Add and Subtract fractions with the same denominator.
Image result for mathsToday in the first block we had Maths with Ms Komor in Room 9. We started with a whole class maths problem and I found the task challenging because I wasn't very sure how to add and subtract fractions, to make the denominator the same. Once Ms Komor explained how to answer the problem I understood the strategy. Afterwards we moved onto a follow up task and in that task we were given fraction equations that we were meant to answer using a mixed fraction. I didn't really find this challenging because I knew what strategy to use and I knew how to explain my strategy. One of the questions that I found was the most challenging would have to be question 9.

Here is how I solved question 9.
Question 9: 4 17/20 - 1 3/20 + 2 11/20 = 5 25/20 or 6 5/20.
I solved this by subtracting 1 3/20 from 4 17/20 which gave me 3 14/20. Then I added 2 11/20 with 3 14/20 and that gave me 5 25/20. I knew that 5 25/20 was an improper fraction so I converted 25/20 to make 1 5/20. Lastly I added 1 5/20 with 5 and that gave me 6 5/20.
or
 1. 4 17/20 - 1 3/20 + 2 11/20 = 5 25/20 =  6 5/204 2.   17/20 - 1 3/20 = 3 14/20
3.   3 14/20  + 2 11/20 = 5 25/20 = 6 5/20

That isn't the end of my follow up activity and I will be blogging the rest of my Maths when I have finished some more. I hope that you understand my strategy in working out question 9 and if you have found errors you can just write it in the comment section. 😀
Question: What are you learning for Maths this week?
