IALT: Use my Analysing, Evaluating & Synthesizing skills to understand the text.

Today I have finished my reading tasks that were required for the Ako Production. We each got given a Pacific Myth to read and we were all split into groups. I was the leader of the Fijian group and we read The Turtles of Namuana. I really enjoyed reading this myth because I learnt a new myth from my culture. 

We used the screencastify app to record our learning. Our task was to use our analysing, evaluating and synthesizing skills to explain what we have learnt from the myth. I really enjoyed the evaluating task because it gave me questions that made me really think about the myth and it helped me build an opinion on the myth. The task I found to be the most challenging was the create task. I found it challenging because my task was to put the information and my prior knowledge together, so I could make a Book cover for the myth.

I think that my next steps are to give deeper reasoning behind my answers so my audience can see my point of view. I think that I can achieve this by explaining my answer and explaining further my reasonings for my answer. One thing that I might do differently next time is making a digital learning object as my background for my recording.

IALT: Reflect on my Nephew's Basketball game.

Today after school I went with my Dad, and we picked up my two nephews Ofa and Una for their Basketball game. My Nephews play for their school St Joseph and they usually play every Monday. I was really excited to go because it has been a long time since I last watched them play. One thing I enjoyed while watching their game was watching Una intercept the ball because he had his timing correctly and he took the ball down to his hoop. Another thing I enjoyed was watching Ofa use his defending skills because it looked like he was trying his best and he actually managed to get the ball for his team. One thing that I think my nephews team could work on would be practicing their shooting because they need to be more precise and accurate instead of throwing the ball upwards. I am looking forward to my nephews next game next week Monday and I can't wait to see if they would improve in the next game.

IALT:Reflect on what I learnt and did at Tamaki College.

On Thursday all the Year 8's stayed a Tamaki Primary to see what High School is like. I was really excited to go because we always go there for technology but we haven't really seen or meet other teachers. We all got given a timetable and after morning tea we all followed our guides and we went to our classes. Our timetable wasn't that complicated and we only went to 4 classes we went to Technology in the morning. Here is what our timetable had on it.

Interval - 10:50 - 11:10 - In the Library
English - 11:10 - 12:00 - Miss Fepuleai in Room B3
Maths - 12:00 - 12:50 - Miss David in Room B14
Lunch - 12:50 - 12:20 - In the Library
Science - 12:50  - 1:30 - Mr Malhotra
PE - 1:30 - 2:30 - Mr Moyes in Recreation Center

My favourite class would have to be Science with Mr Malhotra because he had an optical illusion picture of Albert Einstein. When you walk around the room and look at Albert Einstein from every angle it looks like he is facing and looking at you. I really enjoyed playing capture the cone for PE because it really reminded me of Team Tactics. Team Tactics is a game that I played in Room 8 when Mr Minton was my teacher. The aim of the game was to try and get your opponents ball on your side without getting touched. 



The class that I found was the most challenging was Maths because we got given 15 tasks and we had to try and finish them in a time frame. I was buddied up with Cerenity and we got 1 of them right.  I think that my next steps are to practice my Maths because I need to learn how to solve some of the questions that were given in the Test. 
Question: What is your favourite subject at School?
I like Maths out of all subjects because it challenges my brain a lot.

Year 8 Day at Tamaki College

Year 8 Day at Tamaki College

Today all the Year 8 students are going to be spending the day at Tamaki College. We are going there because we are going to experience a day at High School. I am really excited to go because I want to hear about some students experiences at High School. I also want to see how their schedule works and how many classes a day they take. I am really looking forward to going to Tamaki College to experience a day at High School and today I will make a Blog about how it went.

IALT: Reflect about our second Museum trip.

Today group 2 went to the Museum again. I was really excited because we were going to be working on our projects. Our project was to create a video or art to show how a natural disaster occurs. Me and my team decided to make a Stop Motion movie about how Tsunamis occur. I found this task challenging because we had to create our own little city out of Lego's and it took us a long time. One thing that I enjoyed about this task was building the base plate because at the end it looked like a city and the Sky Tower Star built looked very accurate.

I had a great time making our movie because it was one of the first times me and Star worked together. One thing that I think me and Star worked well on was communicating with each other because we both shared our opinions with each other when we think we needed to change something. I would definitely make Stop Motion videos again because at the end it looks like they just recorded Lego's. One thing that I found challenging making this video was trying to make things fall down slowly because the Blu-Tack wasn't sticking. Another thing that I found challenging was trying to move the props slowly otherwise they would have made a huge move in the movie. One tip that I have for you if your going to make a stop motion movie is to be very patient and to make small movements because they will look like how you move in real life.

Today we also had the opportunity to go to the Loading dock at the Museum and see a real life giant squid. The Giant Squid that we saw was frozen for 2 months and they were defrosting it so they could dissect it. It was my first time seeing a Giant Squid and we also had the chance to sk a few questions to the Scientists. One thing I learnt about Giant Squids is that the have Blue blood instead of Red. I also learnt that Giant Squids have 3 hearts which are found in the Mantle. I asked the scientist of this was her first time dissecting a Giant Squid and she told me that she has actually dissected 30 Giant Squids in her career. The only bad part about seeing the Giant Squid was that it smelt a lot like Rotten Fish.

Museum Trip

IALT: Reflect on what we did at our Museum Trip.
Today half of the Kia Manawanui syndicate went to the Museum. I was really excited to go to the Museum because we were going to do a new program. I was also excited because the first group that went said that we were going to draw using Virtual reality and making stop motion movies. We split into groups and half of us went to the Volcano Gallery while the other half stayed in the classroom. I got to stay in the classroom and our teachers Wendy and Angelic taught us how to use the different devices. We learnt how to use a Green Screen, Tinkercad, 3d paint, make a stop motion video, how to program a robot and how to draw in Virtual Reality.

 I enjoyed making a stop motion video because at the end it just looked like a recording instead of photos. I decided to use the mannequin for my stop motion video and I made it do a dance called Groove Jam which is a dance from Fortnite. Another thing I enjoyed was drawing with the Virtual Reality goggles because it was my first time doing virtual reality and it was awesome drawing things it the air. Lastly I enjoyed going to the Volcano room because they changed the new reporting video and they also made the house shake more.One thing that I found challenging was trying to make my mannequin move slowly because I kept on moving it a lot. Another thing that I found challenging was trying to connect the door handle to the door on Tinkercad because I had to edit it a lot of times.

I think that my next steps are to practice connecting things on Tinkercad using work planes so it can be easier for me. I also think that I might need to work on making the mannequin move a little bit at a time instead of making a big move. One thing that I would do differently next time would be making the Dash (The Robot) do more things like making it go around objects. I would also would want to take pictures using the green screen because me and Heavani didn't take any photos.

IALT: Reflect on what I did at Youth.

Yesterday at Youth we tried the No bake challenge for Mutual. The No bake challenge works by going to the supermarket and buying food so you could make a dish out of it. The twist is that you can't buy made food and you can't cook your food. I was personally excited for this activity because I have never done this challenge before but the Young Women have done this challenge in the past. 


I was put into a group with Nita, Dotty and my sister Tee. Our team decided to make dessert that we decided to call Not so rocky road. We chose that name because we used some ingredients that you use to make Rocky Road. Our budget was $20 dollars and we spent a total of $19.80 cents. We made a filling for our dessert by melting milk chocolate, 2 cans of Cream Cheese, The Oreo filling and some Heavy Cream. We decided to layer our dessert, at the bottom we had melted Marshmallows, crushed Oreo cookies (without the filling), our filling that we made, Crushed Oreos, Our filling, melted Marshmallows and then crushed Oreos in the shape of a 1.

I really enjoyed this activity because it helped me create a stronger bond with my teammates as we worked together. I also enjoyed this activity because we took a risk making this dish since it was made up on the spot and we weren't sure how it was going to turn out. One thing I found challenging was always trying to make sure that our station was clean. I found this challenging because I had to run from the kitchen to our station all the time. Another thing that I found very challenging trying not to stress out because we only had 25 minutes and I was trying my best to stay calm.

Geology and Natural Disasters

Geology and Natural Disasters.

IALT: Reflect on my learning about the layers of the Earth.

This Term our inquiry focus is natural disasters. We have been learning about the layers of the Earth. Did you know that there are four different layers of the Earth such as the Crust, Mantle, Outer Core and Inner Core. Our task was to finish a presentation about the different layers of the earth and the understanding the different tectonic plate boundaries. 

I really enjoyed filling out this presentation because I learnt about the two different types of Crusts. I also enjoyed learning about the four different movements of the tectonic plates. One thing that I found challenging was trying to spell some of the different minerals that are found in the layers of the earth. Some of the minerals that are found are Magnesium, Sulphur, Molten Iron and Aluminum. 

I think that my next steps are to find what the associated features mean when it comes to understanding the plate boundary.  One plate boundary that I find very interesting is the convergent plate boundary.  I find this interesting because a convergent plate boundary happens when two tectonic plates are pushed towards each other, but one of them goes underneath the other. One question that I still have is what happens to the tectonic plate that goes underneath the other plate when it comes to a convergent boundary.

IALT: Reflect on our second Boxing lesson.

Yesterday we had our second Boxing lesson with our instructor Pat. I was really excited for our second lesson because I really enjoy boxing because it can help me relax. This week we learnt how to Hook, Uppercut and how to move forward, backward, left and right in our Boxing stance. One thing that I really enjoyed about our boxing lesson was playing the copy cat game because it really challenged me to focus. In the copy cat game our partner had to move into any stance and we had to copy them. I also enjoyed learning how to twist my feet when I hook and uppercut. One thing that I found challenging was trying to twist my body to put more power into my punch. I think that my next steps are to practice moving in my boxing stance so I can get comfortable moving. I also think that I might need to work on twisting my body so I can have a lot more power in my punches.

📝 IALT: Write a reflection about Fortnite. 📝

This week I have been playing a lot of Fortnite. For those of you that don't know what it is, Fortnite is game that you can play on Playstation 4 (PS4), Computer or on Mobile. When the game begins you start on a Bus and then you get to land somewhere on a Big Map. The aim of the game is to be the last person standing out of the 100 players. This game is really addictive because once you get the hang of you just always want to try and try to get a Victory Royale. This week I have been playing Fortnite with some of my Classmates. 

I played with my friends Cerenity, Akanesi and Lydia. I really enjoyed playing Fortnite with my friends because we played against each other and it was difficult playing with them. One thing that I found challenging was trying to get some kills because Cerenity kept on getting a lot of kills. When me and Akanesi were in a team and were versing Cerenity and Lydia I kept on Sniping Lydia with my Hunting Rifle. In would love to play again with my friends because it challenges my aiming skills and it also helps me think on my feet.

Cleaning the Chapel

Cleaning the Chapel

IALT: Write a reflection about what I did.

Yesterday at 9:00am I went to the Chapel with my sister's best friend Rose for the Youth's Chapel clean up. Yesterday we were assigned by the Bishopric to clean the Chapel. We picked up one of the Mia Maids to come and clean with us and that was Tiere. We first went to eat some breakfast before we cleaned because we all didn't eat. One thing that I enjoyed about cleaning the Chapel was eating the Cocoa Rice afterwards because it was nice and Hot. One thing that I didn't enjoy about cleaning the Chapel was not being able to mop because I wanted to mop the Kitchen but I couldn't. One thing that I would do differently would be asking to mop the kitchen so I could have done what I really wanted to do. I really enjoyed cleaning the Chapel because afterwards I went shopping with my Mum.

IALT: Write a reflection about Band Practise.

Yesterday in the last block me, Akanesi, Edith, Hevani, Stephney, Tevita and Demetrius went down to the music room for band practise. I was excited because I wanted to learn a new song since it's a new term. When we got down stairs we set up all our instruments. To me setting up felt weird because it was had been a long time since I last set up the instruments for band. We practised our song Meant  to be and I think that we did a good practise for our first practise back. This Term we got to choose a new song and our choices were Happy or Can't stop the feeling. We chose the song Happy and I personally think that any of these 2 songs would be perfect because they both have very uplifting messages. I also got some homework which was to go online and learn how to play my part on the Piano. Since there are 2 Keyboard players in the Band, Caleb picked Hevani to play the right hand while I play the left hand. I think that my next steps are to finish my homework and to start playing the son more so I can become familiar with how to play the song.
